The Palio takes place every year in the second week of August. Sunday evening is the highlight: the historical procession, the Corsa del Biroccio and the Burning of the Fortress.

Pietralunga is not served by a direct railway. Car remains the most convenient option, but bus connections from nearby towns are available.

Pietralunga has no railway station. The closest stations are:

Then bus line E119 or taxi to Pietralunga. -

For those traveling without a car, Città di Castello is the most practical starting point to continue by bus.

Parking and Road Access
The historic center is partially closed to traffic on peak days. Please read carefully before you arrive.
Modified road access from Thursday to Sunday
During the Palio's peak days, the road leading to the historic center stops at Via G. Marconi 37, opposite the Carabinieri police station. From that point the town is accessible only on foot.

With Young Children
Pietralunga's historic center has cobblestone streets, narrow alleys and steps: bring a lightweight stroller, or better yet a baby carrier. The Palio is family-friendly: the week includes moments designed for families and young children.
August in Umbria
In August, daytime temperatures can be high. The main shows take place in the evening, when the weather is cooler and more pleasant. Bring water, a hat and sunscreen if you plan to be out in the afternoon.
What to Wear
Formal or medieval-themed clothing isn't required. Afternoons can be hot, so a t-shirt is ideal. Evenings can be cool: bring something light to layer on.
Accessibility
Pietralunga's historic center, like many medieval towns, has paths with steps, cobblestones and changes in elevation. However, access to the main square is not particularly difficult, nor is walking along the town's main streets. Only some alley areas are accessible exclusively via steps.
Eating with Children
